Pay Raise

I received word tonight, that when I return to work on Sunday morning, I will have a new job title. I will no longer be a shift supervisor. Instead, I will be the Assistant Manager. Which means I will be getting a nice pay raise. However, it also means I will be salaried. Which as you know, means I will be working 50-60 hours instead of 40.

I am excited, I finally made it, to the position that I have been after for a long time. My job search, will now be put on hold. The income level is finally at a level, that I like. It's not $60,000, but it's realistic for an industry that there isn't much profit in (1 cent out every dollar, is profit , according to industry statistics).

I am happy for you! I hope it is good for you financial, mentally and in your career path.

And I hope you are wise enough to stay open to options and the future.

Thank you anonymous and dedicated. Financially, it will help out a lot. At first, I won't see it, but eventually the extra $4,000/year will be quite noticeable. The downside is I won't be paid weekly anymore. Instead, I am back to a bi-weekly check.

For some reason, my company pays the hourly employees weekly and the salaried employees bi-weekly.

Awesome! you made it happen! hopefully along with salary you get other perks like better 401k match, company stock, profit sharing etc.

This is really good news. If anyone deserved it you did Kevin. After reading your various blogs over the last several months I'm reminded of some of the nicer guys I grew up with in Alabama. Simple, kind, caring and God Fearing.

Congratulations!!

How much are you making now $16,000?

anonymous -
I made 19k last year.

my company has no stock, and offers no match in the 401(k). As a salaried manager though, I do have the opportunity to earn bonus checks. Something that I didn't get as an hourly employee.

If you are going to work more hours, then you might not even get a pay raise (6000/50/10 = 12 hours more per weeks with no salary increase).

???
Am missing something here.
You should keep looking for a better and higher paying job. In your pay range it shouldn't be that hard...

$19,000 at 52 weeks, 40 hours a week is right about $9.15/hour.

$23,000 at 52 weeks, 50 hours a week is right about $8.85/hour.

Yeah, I've gotten on of those promotions before.

...and that 50 hours a week turns into 65+.

Congrats, Kevin, I think.... I hope the title will eventually lead you to better paying jobs. As a couple of other posters have noted, $4k isn't much of a return for going to salaried and working 15-20 more hours a week. However, you live so close to the edge that the extra money will come in very handy and I've no doubt you'll use it to the max.

On reflextion, I would probably go up and ask my boss what I had done wrong to deserve this raise.

I have been wanting this promotion for many years. Now I finally have obtained it. For the past year, I have been doing the job without the title. I am thrilled to have the bigger paycheck. True, it may not seem like a raise when you figure all the hours, but it is still a bigger check. Plus, the quarterly and annual bonuses will be a huge help. With sales up at my store, it should be easy getting those bonuses this year.

Kevin: I'd keep looking for that job that you want to do in Finance. It fits your personality so. I am glad you got the 4K raise though - CONGRATULATIONS!

my promotion and raise figures to be an 18.5% increase in pay.

Many banks and credit debt companies which have piled up their stocks are expanding their personal and commercial services. On individual level, student loan services are being offered at nominal interest rates. While commercially, banks have really queued up to sell out the merchant accounts combined with a merchant card. Merchant account lets you accept the online payment through credit cards. Such services can now easily be availed through online bank.
