IT pilot fish gets an email from a user who’s getting a “disk quota exceeded” error message from the network-attached storage system.
“I checked the quota on the NAS and indeed this particular user is over the limit,” says fish. “I bumped it up 1TB more and asked for a forecast of future usage. I knew most all the space is committed already.
“Then I turned to our storage guy about the problem, and found out something I’d never heard before. Apparently, there was a project to consolidate the current NAS infrastructure, and up the space as well.
“The money for new trays was given by the user’s department to the architecture team — who spent it on, well, something else. It definitely wasn’t used for upgrading the NAS. (Gosh, doesn’t that sound familiar?)
