As he arrives at work, IT pilot fish is flagged down by his manager — who tells fish that the office’s internet connection is down.

“I jokingly think to myself, ‘I wonder if he sent out an email to inform users that the internet connection is down,'” says fish. “I don’t think too much about it, as I manage the midrange server, which shouldn’t be affected by the internet connection.

“Sure enough, I’m able to log into the internal network and do all my work just fine — just with no web, email, etc.

“A few minutes later we get a voice message sent to all users, telling us about the issue and saying that updates will be sent out as appropriate. I’m pleasantly surprised that the manager communicated to the staff in a way we could all receive notification in a timely manner.
